The Welsh Language Charter
At Gwêl y Glannau Federation, we are passionate about promoting the Welsh language and celebrating our national identity! As part of our commitment to the Siarter Iaith Gymraeg, we encourage all pupils to embrace and use Welsh every day in school life.
To support this, we have exciting initiatives to reward pupils who make a special effort to speak Welsh:
Dygi Draig Award: Each week, one pupil is awarded Dygi Draig, our school’s special mascot, for showing enthusiasm and commitment to speaking Welsh. This recognition encourages pupils to develop their confidence in using the language naturally.
Award for effort displayed to speak Welsh: We celebrate pupils who consistently make an effort to communicate in Welsh, both inside and outside the classroom. This award recognises their dedication and helps to foster a positive Welsh-speaking environment.
We also hold regular Welsh-themed activities, such as:
Weekly Talk Topics: Encouraging all pupils to use more Welsh in different contexts.
Peer Language Mentoring: Older pupils support younger learners in developing their Welsh skills.
By actively using and celebrating the Welsh language, we are ensuring that it thrives in our school and beyond. The Siarter Iaith Gymraeg helps us instil pride, confidence, and a love for our language in every pupil!
