Eco/Green School

At Gwêl y Glannau Federation, we are passionate about protecting our planet and educating pupils on the importance of sustainability! Our Eco Schools Initiative empowers pupils to take an active role in making our school greener, more environmentally friendly, and a leader in sustainability.

At the heart of this programme is our Eco Council, a dedicated group of pupils and staff who meet monthly to discuss and implement action plans for a more sustainable school. This enthusiastic team leads projects and initiatives aimed at reducing waste, conserving energy, and promoting a love for nature among our pupils.

Throughout the year, we engage in a variety of exciting eco-friendly projects, including:

Recycling & Waste Reduction: Encouraging waste-free lunchboxes, running recycling schemes, and reducing single-use plastics.

Energy Conservation: Teaching pupils to turn off lights and devices when not in use and exploring renewable energy sources.

Biodiversity & Outdoor Learning: Creating wildlife-friendly spaces such as bug hotels, bird feeders, and school gardens.

Sustainable Travel: Promoting walking, cycling, and car-sharing to reduce our carbon footprint.

Global Citizenship: Learning about the impact of climate change and how we can contribute to a better world.

We actively take part in national and global environmental campaigns such as Earth Day, The Big Tidy Up, and Switch Off Fortnight. Our pupils also get hands-on experience by planting trees, growing vegetables, and monitoring local wildlife.

We believe that small actions lead to big changes. By working together, we are shaping responsible, eco-conscious individuals who care about their environment and future. Let’s keep our school green and make a real difference!
